Thousands of Mexicans met up on the streets of their capital city, Thursday evening. They were all quite upset with their government's response to forty-three students who went missing in Guerrero state in September. This large group of students disappeared on September 26 when they were on a trip to the town of Iguala. Public officials announced that a local gang had killed the students after the police handed them over to criminals. Gang members were not afraid to keep this a secret. They told investigators that they killed the students and buried their bodies. This case of missing students has brought awareness to the high number of unsolved disappearances in Mexico. A mother, Nora Jaime told the Associated Press, "There are thousands of disappeared, thousands of clandestine graves, thousands of mothers who do not know where their children are." One cannot imagine how frightened mothers are when their children do not come home and are declared for years to come.
The WorldPost had an interview with Daniel Wilkinson, managing director of the Americas division at Human Rights Watch, about the disappearances that occurred in Mexico and how many families live in fear for their children. Wilkinson mentioned that this has been one of the worst atrocities Mexico has seen, but that it is one in many that occur. "There have been many other cases of disappearances and forced disappearances--when state agents are involved in disappearing people" (1). All of these disappearances are occurring because President Felipe Calderon launched his war on drugs. This case of forty-three missing students has struck in outrage in Mexico because students were just attacked by police in the streets of Iguala and then taken away. Also because they were students who were young and had families. It is despairing to hear about families losing their children and them having to constantly live in fear because they could lose their children at any time. Mexico must make a change before this gets worse than it already is.
Wow! What an extraordinary topic you decided to write about Talar; it was extremely intriguing. The occurrence of forty-three students being abducted and later on killed is just unacceptable and the individuals who caused this tragedy should be held accounted for. Justice shall and needs to be served! Outstanding job Talar, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic Talar! This was quite fascinating and gloomy at the same time. I just hope that such crimes will end soon before even more children disappear. Your words grabbed my attention from the start and I was so interested that I reread your blog one more for the fun of it.
ReplyDeleteA fascinating yet aggravating blog post. It is crazy to see one person be the cause of the death of forty three students. I mean, forty three students lost their families. It is impossible to imagine the pain he caused to those students’ relatives. With your accurate description of everything, I was completely aware of what happened. Thank you Talar.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Talar! I had come across the topic of the Mexican pretsters myself and was disgusted by the facts presented. It makes me angry that this type of thing happens in the world and is obviously common. Forty-three students did not deserve to die this way. They should have the right to protest without this fear and I feel for their families that are mourning their loss.
ReplyDeleteIt is deeply saddening that young children are disappearing, it is unfair and inhuman. The way you worded and analyzed the article spectacularly. All I can say is that I hope one day these terrible and disgusting acts will stop taking place and parents can be as ease when they send their children to school.
ReplyDeleteI am extremely thankful and pleased with your choice of analyzing this particular article. Occurrences such as this one outrage me; it is unreal to think that this has happened to actual students. This case is one that should be known by all people and those who believe strongly about it should voice their opinions. Outstanding choice of topic Talar.
ReplyDeleteWow Talar, this was a very moving and emotional topic. I also wrote my blog on this topic this week and it saddens me deeply, as well as frightens me to hear that there are people like this in the world...
ReplyDeleteNow that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I am very thankful that I am not in a situation such as this one or such as the one of the Mexican community, the students parents..
Very well written. Fantastic job.
Talar, the issue you chose to highlight in this blog post hits close to heart. An old family friend of mine went missing in South America(I know Mexico is not in South America but it just reminded me of his story). This displays the immense political corruption in the country, the lack of a safe and stable life. This could be one of the factors that leads to illegal immigration into our own country. Instead of treating immigrants as criminals, we should try to alleviate the problems that litter the countries they originate from.
ReplyDelete43? Wow. I have not yet heard about this news that should definitely already be a topic to be discussed by people everywhere. These subjects and their facts are very upsetting to learn about. However, it is reality and it is something we need to fix before cases get worse. Great written expression, vocabulary, formatting. Add a bit of opinion. Great work.
